Sports movies are perhaps the good old movies when it comes to feel good movies that people look at. Most sports movies, if not all of them, have happy endings and indeed there is a sort of All American feel to the sports movies that makes people very interested in their presentation. The idea behind sports movies is either to present a story of adversity and survival or alternatively to chronicle the events of a true story and adapt it towards a movie that people will be interested in. There is a tremendous rehabilitative power to sports competition and that is what most sports movies attempt to portray through the silver screen.

The popularity base of sports movies is such that a lot of people really enjoy watching them. People that play sports or watch real sports on television on a regular basis will almost certainly enjoy watching sports movies that are based around the same sport that they enjoy watching or playing, but even to a certain degree people that like sports will enjoy watching any sports movie because the vast majority of them come down to that final and unerring theme of overcoming adversity to achieve great things. And that is something that almost every moviegoer ever can get behind if it is presented in the proper way.

The example that is usually given of a good sports movie has to be Remember the Titans. This movie is actually based on a true story about the first team to play in a division with both black and white players on the team. The team was able to work together in order to achieve an unbeaten record and therefore was able to overcome the race obstacle and race barrier before any other teams did it. It is a very heart warming story about the Titans and it is one that will be remembered warmly by fans of the movie for years and generations to come.

The example of another sports movie that people seem to love is Friday Night Lights. This is a movie that is more recent than Remember the Titans and one of the interesting things about that is that the majority of critics call it the greatest sports movie ever made. Considering that sports critics very rarely agree on things en masse, that is definitely saying something about the movie itself.
