The innovations surrounding the creation of plasma TV were innovations that had been made in areas that actually had nothing to do with television whatsoever. The idea of using plasma in electronics was actually something that was originally envisioned for laptops. This innovation was then re-done for the plasma TV. The idea that they were able to figure out how to build larger television sets while at the same time keeping prices down was a key one to the popularity of the plasma TV.

The importance of the different plasma TV products currently available on the market is that they deliver a product to a very specific niche within the larger network of television viewers around the world. That niche is the upper middle class to upper class audience; many of whom are people that watch television often enough to justify the expense of getting an upscale model for their primary viewing television. Plasma TV models are definitely upscale in their design and focus and it is this primary importance of the plasma TV that continues to make it an important product in today's market.
Usage
Just as the importance of the plasma TV is to be used by the upper class and the middle class in the world today, the usage of it is done so primarily by those two groups. There are of course a number of other places where you might see plasma TV usage and these places include things like university common rooms as well as waiting rooms for upscale doctor, dentist and lawyer offices. While the price has been kept reasonably low, at the same time it is not low enough to be universally affordable by all people and this is primarily why it still remains something used by the middle and upper classes of the world today.
History
The history of the plasma TV is such that it actually burst onto the scene with little warning not that long ago. It has been around for maybe a decade at most in any real sense and less than a decade in a mass produced sense. It has a short history and where that history will go to in the far future or even the near future is anyone's guess.
