Menorca, Spain Vacation

Menorca is quite a special place to visit and is far from being an average holiday destination and you can easily explore this wonderful island by car in places such as Mahon and also Ciutadella where you will not encounter much traffic. All you will really need is a handy map and you should not have any trouble locating some exciting hideaway places which are most often frequented only by Menorcans where you can escape from the crowds that you otherwise find in the more tourist oriented places. The crowds generally gravitate to the excellent restaurants in places such as Cala Galdana, Son Bou as well as Cala’n forcat.

Of special interest to those who want to visit the south coast of Menorca are the flat landscapes, deep gorges as well as places having towering cliffs which is why there are many resorts scattered about that include quiet hamlets and even some more lively family resorts. You can gain access to these resorts from main Mahon – Ciutadella road as also from Mahon through Saint Louis. These resorts are well known for their modern beach bars and have all the necessary amenities to make your stay pleasurable. You can visit Salgar a small resort on the south coast of Menorca that is pretty close also to Mahon as also Sant Louis. Or, you could go down to Punt Prima where there are many hotels and which also boasts of a very attractive beach, though the water currents can be quite strong and therefore dangerous.

You might also want to visit the north coast of Menorca that is very contrasting to the south having wild rocks and plenty of pine trees. However, there is very little development in the area except for the area between Fornells and Addaia. So, you can get to see plenty of beautiful and unspoiled nature while in this part of Menorca. There is also Ciutadella that lies to the west of Menorca where there are many peaceful holiday resorts though most of them are small and which are picturesquely situated in the cala’s. There is also the Los Delfines which is rather large and brash and which has everything that any tourist would want.

In any case Menorca is really a hidden paradise and it is also the second largest island in the Balearics though the number of tourist arrivals is not as great as in Ibiza and Majorca. However, here you will find that nature has been untouched by modern civilization and thus the small resorts that you find will make ideal destination spots for anyone wishing for idyllic beaches along with coves and islets that make for a peaceful sojourn. The capital of Menorca is Mahon and it also has one of the largest natural harbors in Europe. Most people that come to Menorca love the enervating night life and take great pleasure from visiting the many bars close to the harbor as also the pavement caves.
