Lovech Vacation

Lovech is a town that is located in the north central parts of Bulgaria, close to the Osum River. It is a very developed industrial town that is well known for manufacturing bicycles, motorcycles, automobiles as well as agricultural machinery and leather goods. It began as a prehistoric settlement and later became a town inhabited by Romans and later transformed into a big Turkish center. At present it has a population of just fifty thousand inhabitants though it is well known for some amazing cultural and natural sights.

For those who want to watch theater there is also plenty of variety available such as the Lovech Drama Theater, and the theater performed at the Nauka Community Centre and of course, the summer theater in Stratesh Park. Don't forget to pay a visit to the museums such as the Museum of Vasil Levski, Lovech Historical Museum and the Drasova Memorial House and the Rashova Memorial House already mentioned.

Lovech was a Bulgarian fortress in the Middle Ages that stood over the ruins of an ancient Roman road station and has been called Lovech since the twelfth century. Today, you can find many old Renaissance architectural houses preserved in the ancient part of the town that is known as Varosha. The Lovech region has plain terrain as well as hills and you will be more than impressed by the outstanding nature that is exemplified in the Balkan Mountains as well as the Danubian plain.

The town itself lies about one hundred seventy kilometers to the north-east of Sofia and ninety kilometers to the south of Nikopol. Without a doubt, the pride of Lovech is the Covered Bridge that was constructed in 1874 by Master Kolyu Ficheto, though it burnt down in August of 1925, but was once again erected in 1927-31 and is now a Ferro-concrete bridge that is one hundred six meters in length.

Another important monument that you must visit is the Hisarya Fortress that was built in the second half of the ninth century. Situated close to Lovech, about eighteen kilometers north-east is the Devetashka Cave, which is one of Europe's biggest caves and which is a monument of culture as well as a natural place of national and also international significance.
