General Job Description

One thing and only one thing in today’s world is a given; the computer revolution is here to stay and there is no going back. Technology has become such a big part of our daily lives that it is almost inconceivable how we were able to live just a decade ago without it being as big as it was. There are a number of different IT support jobs that are available in the world today specifically because of the importance of computers in the world as a whole. If you have the qualifications to understand and work on different computer devices, then you have a skill set that is going to keep you in high demand for a while to come. As long as computers are important in the world, IT support jobs are going to be available.

Specific Types

There are a few different specific IT support jobs that a company might be interested in adopting. The first one is the telephone IT support jobs that are available through many different companies today. These are sort of a cross between IT support jobs and customer service jobs, but it is impossible to fill that role with someone that does not have the technical knowledge to make it work. In addition to that, many companies have a whole department related to IT and in that department there are sort of roving IT support personnel. These people are charged with going around to the different areas of the company and essentially making sure that everything is up to snuff technology wise.

Skills Required

There are many different skills required for IT support jobs, but the general set that all of these skills belong to is simply the IT skill set. The idea of understanding how computers work as well as understanding the programming that goes into computers is the base for understanding how the different parts of a computer network or the different pieces of technology used by a company can malfunction and therefore how they can be fixed. IT is a very theoretical field in some ways, and very hands on in some other ways. Knowing both sides of this is the way to become a complete IT support person.

Education Required

There are many routes, but the two main routes are University degrees and College diplomas. The former is more theoretical in nature, while the latter is more hands on. Either one can get your foot in the door.
