Characteristics
Disney is a corporation that was founded in the United States and over time has grown to become one of the biggest corporations in the world as far as movie making and other things go. They are best known for the large number of animated things that they have released over the different years and their cartoon movie version of stories like Snow White, Cinderella, Aladdin and many others have endeared them into the hearts and minds of many people all around the world. The modern Disney Corporation is more into computer animation than freehand illustrative animation and a number of their more recent movies such as 'Finding Nemo' are computer animated in their own way.
Popularity Base
The popularity base of Disney is actually something very interesting to comprehend from a sociological point of view because it is actually pretty diverse. Many people think that the Disney movies are such that people can't enjoy them unless they are young children, but often times people that have gone back to watch Disney movies after years of not having watched them end up getting more jokes and punch lines than they did when they were children. The Little Mermaid and the song sang by the French Chef in that movie is the perfect example of a running gag that children might not get, but teens and people in their twenties would definitely get.

There are of course a number of different classic Disney movies around, but the one that many of the people in the modern young age group would remember would have to be Aladdin. Aladdin is of course a movie based around one of the stories from the Arabian Nights anthology and the movie itself is about a boy who finds a lamp to bring forth a genie. The whole story then goes on from that point until the end of the story where Aladdin ends up marrying the woman of his dreams.

Another classic Disney movie would have to be The Lion King. This is a movie that has enchanted the hearts and minds of children all over the world because it is a tale about overcoming adversity told from the point of view of the animal kingdom with a lot of humor thrown in for good measure. Many adults watching the movie for the first time love it as well and it is widely thought of to be the crowning achievement of the Disney Corporation.
