Barcelona Vacation




If you are heading down to the sunny climes of Spain, then there is no other better place for an exhilarating vacation than visiting Barcelona. This major Mediterranean port that bustles with activity incorporates the best of old Roman ruins along with many middle ages' quarters as well as the best of modern twentieth century avant-garde art. And, a visit to the sunny Spain would certainly be incomplete without at least a visit to the nearby beaches that are located in Barcelona.

Barcelona has much to offer by way of artistic wonders and if you have to bring your children along, then there is plenty for them as well. If you love nature you can always head down to the nearby Catalonian Pyrenees as well as the Coastal Mountain Range for more adventurous hiking.

With beaches close at hand, Barcelona is a wonderful summertime holiday destination that also boasts of other attractions such as the Aquarium, Maritime Museum, Zoo, and Museum of Barcelona Football Club as also the Olympic Stadium, not to forget the theme park that is close by. Barcelona also has the very best to offer for shopping and the Barcelona Shopping Line has much to offer any shop-a-holic.

There is steamy night life with a number of night clubs, discos, bars, restaurants, and the ubiquitous cafes and the many wonderful theaters, cinemas, and also operas that all have diverse entertainment to offer. Barcelona is also a city where the culture minded can visit many historical sites with many of them being located in the Old Town.

Spreading from the harbor to the north-west of the city is the Old Town and in its very center is the Gothic Quarter or the Barrio Gotico, as the locals call it. The Barrio de la Ribera, situated besides the Gothic Quarter, dates back to the medieval times and here you can find many historic buildings that have since been converted into museums including the Picasso Museum.

You also won't want to miss the well known Las Ramblas of Barcelona that comprises many exciting streets that together form a broad avenue that leads you to the harbor where the waters from the Mediterranean Sea splash against the harbor walls and which makes for an excellent atmosphere. If you head south-west from here you will come to the fortress that lies atop a hill called Montjuic. To the south of the Ramblas is the Barcelona Harbor and also Port Vell where you will find many classy restaurants along with fashionable clubs and also bars.

In the center of Barcelona called the L'Eixample you can find the fantasy works of Gaudi including the Park Guell, Palau Guell as well as the Casa Mila La Pedrera. The work for which Gaudi is most well known for is without a doubt the Cathedral of Barcelona known as La Sagrada Familia.
