Airline Security

Airline Security

Over the last decade airline security has become more secure and effective due to the heightened alerts for our safety. Since September 11th airlines all around the world has been more cautious of its workers including pilots and its passengers.

Examples

Some airlines has went as far as cutting off liquids such as hairspray , soaps ,shampoos , and even drinks from being brought onto the airplane. Doing so often results in being escorted from the plane not being allowed to re-board. News reporters and the media have a field day with reports of mothers being taken off of airplanes because of fluids in their children's training cups or bottles. Recently a mother was removed from airport security for refusing to pour her sons water out before boarding the plane.

Frustrated Passengers

Most airports has often doubled their security personnel in the last few years for a short period after attacks or when security levels arose but before long they decreased them back to normal. With a shortage of security personnel this often leads to longer lines for passengers who are waiting to board their plane. Due to the increased airport rules and regulations the normal wait time to actually arrive in the waiting area to board your plane can take as long as five hours depending on the size of the airport and when you're flying. Bigger airports have daily delays due to the shortage of employees and the over crowding of passengers. Long lines at the ticket counters, then standing in line to have your luggage X-Rayed and sometimes possibly being selected for a random pat down only increases your wait time.

Causes For Concern

Even though airports of any size can be targeted for attack its usually the larger airports that are at greater risk due to the size and the high potential for attacks on different aspects of the airport. The concerns could range from fear of attacks on the aircraft such as hijacking or even an attack inside of the airport itself. The bigger and more populated the airport is the greater the possibility for more destruction.

Airport security

Airport security is made up of several people who are trained to try to stop attacks before they happen. They are provided with equipment and processes to prevent attacks from happening. All baggage must be screened before being allowed to be put on the aircraft. At the security check points you will be asked to place all contents of from your pockets into a tray, remove your shoes, and step through the metal detectors. An alarm will sound if metal is detected on you. You will then be asked to check your pockets for anything else and if the alarm still sounds you will be patted down or maybe even strip searched. The content from your pockets will be run through an X-Ray machine to check for bombs, knives and other disastrous items. Some airports now have advanced machines that screen passengers for explosive detection.

Summary

Airport security can be frustrating for those of us who are in a hurry to get where we are going but remember overall it's for our own good.
